Partnership with Gateway makes a difference

We are always encouraged when our clients send us a note expressing their gratitude.

YOU are making a difference through your partnership with Gateway Community Outreach, in so many lives and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart.

“The purpose of this letter is to express my personal appreciation I have received from the entire staff at your program, Gateway Community Outreach. I will like to truly thank you for the rental assistance and all the extra effort of support and ensuring me that it we will be OK.
After being turned away from other agencies, due to no funding or not meeting certain requirements, I felt I was going in circles, and I didn’t know what I was going to do next. I am deeply grateful for your kindness, your trust and most importantly your prayer.
With all of the assistance Gateway has provided to me, again, I truly thank you, it was a tremendous help. Gateway has lead me to believe there is still hope for struggling parents, that has children with disabilities.
My son, six years old, has a special need, since birth, which makes it difficult for me to work a full time position because I don’t have Aftercare for him. As I am trying to resolve this matter, please continue to keep us in your prayers.
I will gladly accept any and all information shared with me for the help I need to getting me back on the right path.
It would be my pleasure to give back and help the organization by volunteering at any function/giveaway or offering my decorating expertise for a small event. Please advise.
Once again thanks for all your generosity.   Thanks for your help.

Be a Valentine to the Hungry

Be a Valentine to the hungry this month

Be a Valentine to the hungry this month.
There is a myth that food panties can collect enough food during the giving season (Holidays) to feed the community all year round. It’s time for a myth buster… Ready?! Not true. Why isn’t it true, you may ask? I’m so glad you asked…. Let me explain…

For most of us; the Holiday Season is behind us, and our days are back to a routine that we are accustomed to and has accepted as normal. However, for many their normal is being hungry and (or) being nearly homeless, and this continues year round. A few days of collecting food and donations that are given out almost as quickly during the Holiday Season cannot meet the overwhelming need of our community.

Here at Gateway Community Outreach, we are thankful and are blessed to have loyal partners who help fill in the gap even after the Holiday Season is over to feed the hungry and provide funds to help the homeless.
Would you consider being a partner and help keep our working going all year long? It does not take much; a monthly gift of $25.00 is all it takes to feed one family.

Some facts to consider: In 2015, there were over 43.1 million people living in poverty at a rate of 13.5 percent of which 7.8 percent are children who are experiencing hunger regularly, facing bare cupboards and refrigerators wondering where their next meal will come from.

Here in South Florida, over 1 million residence (296,600 children) does not know where their next meal is coming from. A whopping 29 percent of these residences don’t qualify for federal nutrition programs and are forced to rely on non-profits like Gateway Community Outreach to meet their needs.

Gateway Community Outreach has made feeding the hungry our passion and mission for over 21 years and fed over 760,000 individuals since our inception. Our passion continues to be ignited when we meet the needs of our clients, watch them become self-sufficient and become volunteers who later meet the needs of others.

Carol Ray (CEO and President) founded Gateway Community Outreach (GCO) in April 1995, over 21 years ago, and continues to focus their efforts on addressing the needs of the hungry and homelessness in the community. GCO is a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax exempt corporation that assists over 30,854 clients yearly, with a staff of 4 and nearly 300 volunteers.

GCO’s mission is to safeguard and protect our most vulnerable community members by providing food, housing assistance, referrals and intensive case management to those in need of emergency aid. Simply put, their goal is to feed the hungry, prevent homelessness and help clients reach self-sufficiency. GCO’s success is supported by the utilization of a case management system, consisting of a 90-day plan to connect clients with services and referrals (i.e.) food, bus passes, baby needs, gift cards for clothing, rent/mortgage and water bill assistance.

Publix Super Markets, Inc. has provided a $14,000 grant to Gateway Community Outreach, in association with the 2017 Festival of the Flutes event. You Don’t Qualify To EAT!

Do not ignore the facts because you are removed from the experience of being hungry and having a place to live, that the homeless and the hungry are not a part of your every day encounter! Today you may have worked with or passed at least two people who will go hungry tonight.  So what are the facts?…

In 2015, there were over 43.1 million people living in poverty at a rate of 13.5 percent of which 7.8 percent are children who are experiencing hunger regularly, facing bare cupboards and refrigerators wondering where their next meal will come from.

Here in South Florida, over 1 million residence (296,600 children) does not know where their next meal is coming from. A whopping 29 percent of these residences doesn’t qualify for federal nutrition programs and is forced to rely on non-profits like Gateway Community Outreach to meet their needs.

Our passion continues to be ignited when we meet the needs of our clients, watch them become self-sufficient and become volunteers who later meet the needs of others.

With this holiday season upon us, please partner with us, as we help the residence of South Florida have a great experience celebrating this Thanksgiving Holiday.
